{"id":29555,"date":"2019-05-22T08:00:29","date_gmt":"2019-05-22T06:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/barcelonacolours.wordpress.com\/?p=3366"},"modified":"2020-03-22T19:02:12","modified_gmt":"2020-03-22T17:02:12","slug":"picnic-at-the-gardens-of-the-grec-theatre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/en\/picnic-at-the-gardens-of-the-grec-theatre\/","title":{"rendered":"Picnic at the gardens of the Grec theatre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5; text-align: justify;\">A few weekends ago we went to a<strong> children birthday<\/strong> in a spectacular site (and free) that I recommend you to visit in family: the <strong>gardens of the Grec theatre.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>PICNIC AT GREC THEATRE GARDENS<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We knew the place like so many people of <strong>Barcelona,\u00a0<\/strong>at night and overflowing with people, because of the <strong>summer festival Grec <\/strong>that is one of the most distinguished theatrical events of the city. It was a real discovery to go by\u00a0day and find out\u00a0that these gardens are ideal for the small urban explorers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/bcn_colours_jardinsgrec091.jpg\" alt=\"Bcn_colours_jardinsGrec09\" width=\"640\" height=\"317\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>GREC\u00a0AMPHITHEATRE<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nThe best thing of the gardens of the Grec theatre, if you go during the day and with children, is the Grec amphitheater itself. This is an old quarry converted in 1929 in an outdoor theater in the style of the ancient Greek theaters. By day, the gardens of the Grec are almost\u00a0empty, so you can imagine how the children feel when they come and see such a huge and special\u00a0space only for them. There they can run, jump, and play, go up and down the stairs, jump from the stage into the pit, etc..<br \/>\nYou can compare the images of the Amphitheatre in the morning, from our <strong>children picnic:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/bcn_colours_jardinsgrec241.jpg\" alt=\"Bcn_colours_jardinsGrec24\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">with a photo taken from wikipedia, with the theater packed to the rafters, at night, in one of the performances of the <strong>Grec Festival of Barcelona<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/teatre_grec1.jpg\" alt=\"Teatre_Grec\" width=\"640\" height=\"424\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>THE LOOKOUT<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Those of you that you have\u00a0been in the Grec Festival in summer will know that the\u00a0lookout area hosts a bar restaurant. Well, the rest of the year the building is empty. At that <strong>old Music Pavilion of the Universal Exhibition of 1929<\/strong> was where we\u00a0organized the picnic, after requesting permission from Barcelona city council.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/bcn_colours_jardinsgrec111.jpg\" alt=\"Bcn_colours_jardinsGrec11\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Again, compare these two photos. One, with the building by\u00a0day, completely empty and at our disposal, within which we assembled the picnic tables:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/teatre_grec_pab_musica1.jpg\" alt=\"teatre_grec_pab_musica\" width=\"640\" height=\"382\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With this picture taken from the blog of In &amp; Out Barcelona (which we love!) with the pavilion\u00a0transformed into\u00a0a restaurant for the evenings of July, during the Grec Festival. You want to be\u00a0there\u00a0both day and night, right?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3531\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/festivalgrec21.jpg\" alt=\"FestivalGrec2\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>ONE OF THE BEST VIEWS OF BARCELONA<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0Gardens of Grec is a place with <strong>exceptional views of Barcelona<\/strong>: in front, Collserola. Further,\u00a0Tibidabo and on the right, the Litoral\u00a0mountains and in the background, Montseny. On the left, we have an exceptional view of the building where it is located the \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/mnac-y-alrededores\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MNAC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/bcn_colours_jardinsgrec031.jpg\" alt=\"Bcn_colours_jardinsGrec03\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Attention <strong>#photohunters<\/strong>\u00a0of Barcelona, the photos of\u00a0these gardens, early\u00a0in the morning, promise (do not take in consideration\u00a0my photos, that I took with the mobile,\u00a0and with a\u00a0strange light). Is anyone in\u00a0to get up early on a Saturday and take photos\u00a0with the reflex?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/bcn_colours_jardinsgrec411.jpg\" alt=\"Bcn_colours_jardinsGrec41\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Going on with\u00a0the picnic, when the\u00a0little\u00a0urban explorers were tired of going up and down the stairs of the amphitheater Grec, they discovered that the <strong>central garden<\/strong> was ideal to keep running between the beds of herbs and the different varieties of roses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/bcn_colours_jardinsgrec061.jpg\" alt=\"Bcn_colours_jardinsGrec06\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Before they were called Gardens of the Grec theatre, this place was called Rosaleda Amarg\u00f3s, and it was the second public rose garden that was created in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/bcn_colours_jardinsgrec2_291.jpg\" alt=\"Bcn_colours_jardinsGrec2_29\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Several ponds give a spirit\u00a0of joy to the gardens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/bcn_colours_jardinsgrec121.jpg\" alt=\"Bcn_colours_jardinsGrec12\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>central gardens<\/strong> are a real orchard. If you stop to look at the vegetation of the place, you can find\u00a0real surprises: we have already spoken about\u00a0the roses, but there are jasmines, ivies, grapes, lavenders, orange trees, bougainvilleas, a huge pine, ashes, cypresses, oaks, and \u00a0a very tall whashingtoniana palm\u00a0tree.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the gardens of the Grec theatre we can observe several trees that are part of the C<strong>atalog of trees of local interest of Barcelona<\/strong>. (including the tall palm tree\u00a0that I just mentioned).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/bcn_colours_jardinsgrec141.jpg\" alt=\"Bcn_colours_jardinsGrec14\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The place is unique and full of little corners. This makes it <strong>ideal for the little\u00a0urban explorers from 6 to 14 years<\/strong>, but be <strong>especially careful<\/strong> <strong>if you go with young children<\/strong> because you\u00a0will not be able to\u00a0take your eyes off them: water tanks, very hilly stairs &#8230; Have them under surveillance. The space has a surface of \u200b\u200b1.65 hectares. It is not a dangerous place but you just have to watch out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonacolours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/bcn_colours_jardinsgrec161.jpg\" alt=\"Bcn_colours_jardinsGrec16\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For those who want to <strong>visit the gardens of the Grec theatre in family<\/strong>, they are situated in\u00a0the mountains of Montju\u00efc, up the Passeig de Santa Madrona, on the left.<br \/>\nAnd if after the visit to the gardens is about lunchtime, on five minutes walk you can try some of the <strong>best tapas \u00a0in Barcelona<\/strong> at <strong>La Ca\u00f1ota<\/strong>. A 100% kids friendly place.
