Do you know the Fundació Parc Aeronàutic de Catalunya? It is an entity that was born with the objective of keeping historical aviation alive. A great plan for families with children who like airplanes. Today Nuria tells us about her visit taking advantage of its open doors.
A great plan for children that will not leave anyone indifferent.
VISIT THE FUNDACIÓ PARC AERONÀUTIC DE SABADELL
In 2019 we had the opportunity to attend on two occasions the open days that the FPAC (Fundació Parc Aeronàutic de Catalunya) organizes at the Sabadell airport. The first time, in May, we did not know exactly what we would find, nor did we know too much about the work of this foundation, whose objective is to recover and disseminate the aeronautical historical heritage of Catalonia.
After the experience of that first visit, in December we repeated, this time to see how Santa Claus arrived on a plane. On this occasion, in addition to being impressed by that very special visit, we really enjoyed meeting the team of professionals responsible for keeping the airspace safe for flight operations. As you can imagine, that team is made up of different birds, including hawks (or so I think, sorry for my little knowledge in ornithology).OPEN DOO
OPEN DOORS
Given the success of these open days, the FPAC has proposed to arrive in 2021 at 10 sessions. We will annouce the dates in our agenda.
FREE VISIT OR GUIDED IN FAMILY
The hours are from 10:00 to 13:30. From 11:00 to 13:30 there is an operational exhibition on land and in flight of classic aircraft. At 1:30 p.m. is the closing of the exhibition. Besides from 10 to 12:00 you can do, if you want, a guided tour of the hangars, although this activity is not free, the contribution is 7 euros per adult and minors up to 15 years old, 1 euro. In any case, I will tell you that visiting the Fundació is very worthy, even if you decide not to visit the hangars which, I insist, are the only thing on the open day that you do have to pay if you want to do it (I want to clarify that visiting the Fundació does not imply entering the hangars).
We have never visited the hangars. On the first visit, my children would prefer to go on their own, taking photos here and there and stopping for more or less time in those planes that most caught their attention. My little boy was so enthusiastic that even though they had set up tables for the little ones to paint pictures of planes, he didn’t want to sit for a minute or get on the Pitts Pedal. And on the second visit all our attention was captured by Santa Claus and the hawks and other birds, so the hangars will be left for another occasion.
MEET HISTORICAL AIRPLANES
On both visits, apart from seeing historical planes on the ground, we also got to see some of them flying and that was even more spectacular. In short, we loved them and I’m sure that in 2020 we will return at once.
AERONÀUTIC CULTURAL CENTER OF THE PRAT AIRPORT
I have also read that the historical collection of the FPAC can be visited at the Center Cultural Aeronàutic de l’Aeroport de Barcelona, in El Prat. Visits are on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 13:30 although prior reservation must be made. To book, according to the FPAC website, you must write an email to pacvisita@gmail.com). The aeronautical exhibition One Hundred Years of Civil Aviation in Catalonia that is in the Aeronautical Cultural Center of the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport reviews the evolution that international, national and also local aviation has experienced throughout history, through different aircraft, replicas of historic aircraft, photographs, graphic panels, engines and models. A recommended visit for all audiences where you will enjoy a different and learning day.
AND AFTER THE DOORS OPEN DAY …
If you have the possibility to attend the open days organized at Sabadell airport, I recommend that you go to Parc Catalunya de Sabadell afterwards. I have already told you that we like this park a lot for how complete it is (because it even has an observatory).
